Mary Grzybowska is a dedicated lawyer with dual certifications in Canada and Poland. She embarked on her legal journey with a combined JD and LLM from Poland in 2013, where she defended her master’s thesis on intellectual property and contributions in kind. Her academic foundation was complemented by her practical experience as a paralegal and completion of the Federation of Law Societies program at the University of Alberta, which paved the way for her successful transition to Canadian law.
Since 2014, Mary has developed a specialization in class action lawsuits and has made significant contributions to high-profile cases involving charter-based abuses, relocations, and Indigenous issues. Her work on landmark cases such as Anderson v. Canada (the Labrador Residential School case) and the Ahiarmiut relocation claim has been instrumental in achieving historic settlements. Her expertise also extends to negotiating complex claims with a keen strategic approach. She was class counsel on one of the first class actions certified in Nunavut (RPC1 et al. v the Attorney General of Canada et al., 2020 NUCJ 22) and currently serves as class counsel on several pivotal cases, including those addressing Indian Hospitals, forced sterilizations, health privacy breaches, RCMP discrimination and others.
Mary’s extensive experience in Canadian courts includes appearances before the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, The Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, the Nunavut Court of Justice, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Canadian Federal Court of Appeal.
Since 2023, Mary has concentrated her practice exclusively on class actions and mass torts, demonstrating her commitment to addressing systemic problems. Fluent in both English and Polish, she offers her clients a bilingual advantage in navigating complex legal landscapes. With her comprehensive expertise and global perspective, Mary continues to champion justice for those affected by large-scale injustices.
