Kathleen Nielsen

Kathleen Nielsen is an Associate Lawyer at Cooper Regel LLP with a broad litigation practice. She appears regularly before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, representing clients in chambers applications,mediations, case conferences, and trials. Kathleen brings experience from a range of practice areas, including constitutional, administrative, elections, family, municipal, and Aboriginal law. She is known for her strong research and advocacy skills, as wellas her practical, client-focused approach to resolving complex legal issues. Before joining Cooper Regel, Kathleen managed her own litigation files and represented clients in a variety of proceedings, developing a well-rounded advocacy practice. She has also acted in roles supporting Indigenous governance and municipalenforcement, giving her valuable insight into the intersection of law, policy, and community. Kathleen is actively involved in the legal community and regularly volunteers with the Edmonton Community Legal Clinic, where she provides summary legal advice and contributes to public legal education. She holds a Bachelor of Laws fromthe University of London and graduate law degrees from the University of Toronto and Temple University, along with a certificate in Indigenous Peoples and Canadian Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. She is fluent in Japanese and has a working knowledge of French. Kathleen is called to the Bar in Alberta, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association, and serves on the executiveof the CBA’s Alberta North Aboriginal Law section.
